Senior citizens

Elderly people can become more vulnerable during flood events. They may have difficulty moving heavy items to higher ground, accessing information, or evacuating quickly. There may also be disruptions to essential services for seniors. For example, Brisbane South Meals on Wheels lost thousands of dollars’ worth of food during the 2011 floods. Instead, they relied on volunteers to check in with clients for a week. Kurilpa residents also reached out to known elderly neighbours.
