More stuff to move or lose

“We moved into our riverside unit in 1972. The 1974 floodwaters came up from the river, into the garages. Everyone was desperately trying to get their things out. We ended up jamming our cars together at the top of the street on higher ground. We couldn’t leave for a few days because we were blocked in by the water. For us, this wasn’t such a desperate flood, because we hadn’t had a chance to accumulate many belongings.”
