Evacuation centres

The Brisbane City Council established two evacuation hubs during the 2022 floods. 257 people evacuated to the Sleeman Sports Centre in Chandler and 581 people evacuated to the Kedron-Wavell Services Club in Chermside. However, many expressed these locations were too remote and instead advocate for multiple centres across the city. Some residents chose to remain in flooded homes without power because the centres were too hard to get to. One person sleeping rough remarked, “I was homeless before the floods, and I’ll be homeless after them”.
