Vulnerable energy infrastructure

The 2022 floods damaged many Energex power transformers located on low-lying land in West End. They were subsequently replaced with pole-mounted transformers. In some areas, the power was shut off at short notice for safety reasons. This meant some apartment residents were unable to relocate their elevators to higher levels or operate electric gates to move cars out of basements before floodwaters arrived. Some residents were without power for a month after the flood. Body corporates had to organise petrol generators to power essential services like elevators.
