Southbank’s Rain Bank

South Bank Parklands is estimated to be the most intensively used public space in the world. From 2004, drought conditions and water restrictions made it difficult to maintain the large, green public space. This drove the closure of the water play areas. To provide water for irrigation, a stormwater harvesting system called the Rain Bank was constructed. It diverts and treats stormwater runoff generated from the 30 hectare catchment of West End and South Brisbane.
