How do newcomers learn about flood risks?

Kurilpa is a rapidly growing inner-city neighbourhood. Between the 2011 and 2022 floods, Kurilpa’s population nearly doubled with 80% of people living in newly developed apartments. Kurilpa has a young and diverse population. It is home to migrant workers, international students, and one of the highest proportion of renters in South East Queensland. Many Kurilpa newcomers were not privy to local knowledge of flood impacts such as power outages, flooded basements, and the risk of displacement.
