Growing cities and growing exposure

An extra 2.5 billion people are expected to be living in urban areas around the world by 2050. A lack of climate-sensitive planning is exposing more and more people to climate impacts like storms, floods and heatwaves. People feel climate impacts on their health, wellbeing and livelihood in different ways, some more than others. City planning, design and maintenance will determine who is exposed, made more vulnerable and has capacity for resilience.
