Send us your strata flood-related questions

2 August 2023

This month, Resilient Kurilpa members are working with BCsystems, a strata management service for body corporates here in Kurilpa and around South East Queensland, to share our learnings on flood in strata communities.

This month, BCsystems have put the call out to their clients to send in flood-related questions for our members to answer.

80% of residents in Kurilpa live in apartment buildings and our members are at the forefront of apartment flood mitigation planning (check out the resources in our Apartment Toolkit).

Flood mitigation planning for apartments is an important climate adaptation project.

We know how overwhelming this journey is for residents and volunteer body corporate committees. It is also a costly venture in terms of time, energy and finances.

It involves learning about and preparing your building so that residents and property is protected when the next flood hits. For example:

  • Do you know how your stormwater system works?

  • What are the roles and responsibilities of your body corporate committee, building manager, building wardens, site coordinator, volunteers/residents?

  • How have you prepared your residents for flood emergencies?

  • Have vulnerable residents prepared a Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness Plan and shared it?

  • Do you know when to remove cars and possessions from basements and which road routes are flood safe?

Whether your building was directly affected, or you have a general question around flood preparation and mitigation planning, we want to hear from you.

Send us your flood-related strata questions.

All answers will be shared on our blog and via BCsystems channels.
