Floods regenerate river ecosystems
Floods are important for reconnecting creeks and wetlands, bringing water and nutrients to regenerate local flora and fauna. This nutrients sets off a boom in the food chain from algae, plants and insects to frogs, fish, turtles and birds. More frogs, for example, provide a food source for other animals. Floods keep the whole river system healthy and can sustain them for decades afterwards.
