Floodplains by Design

Floodplains by Design is a government-funded partnership in Washington. Local agencies, tribes, NGOs, and landowners collaborate on floodplain management projects. Since a 2009 flood forced 26,000 people to evacuate, the program has achieved a lot. It’s restored over 100 kms of river habitat. Reconnected nearly 8,000 acres of floodplain. Removed or reduced the flood risk for over 3,000 homes. Created over 3,700 jobs and established 28 recreational areas.
