Cyclones and building codes

Brisbane has had nine tropical cyclones since first recorded in writing in 1893. Three of these occurred from 2014. Because it is unusual for tropical cyclones to travel south, Brisbane’s building codes are less strict than in northern parts of Queensland. This means cyclonic storms may have a higher impact on our community.
